What we collect
Voters: your ballot answers, a receipt code, timestamps, and — for named sections — your member ID and chapter, exactly as disclosed on the ballot above Question 1. Secret-ballot questions (such as convention delegates) are stored with no name and no chapter. Voting codes are stored only as SHA-256 hashes. Provisional ballots additionally hold the contact details you provide, sealed until adjudication.
Who can see what
Named answers: election administrators and your own chapter's admins. Secret-ballot rankings: no one by name — administrators can only trace a specific record for troubleshooting, under audit. National does not publish a chapter's results; each chapter decides its own publication (never secret-ballot rankings). Every administrative action is written to an append-only audit log.
What we don't do
We do not sell or share member data, run ads, use tracking pixels or third-party analytics, or send messages from this service. Election reminders go through DSA's existing communication platforms.
Where data lives — and who holds it
All election data is stored in and controlled by the Democratic
Socialists of America, inside DSA's own Google Cloud project
(dsa-org-tools) alongside DSA's membership data warehouse — the
same infrastructure DSA staff already operate. The author of the RosaVote
software (Walker Green) does not host, receive, or have access to your
ballots, contacts, or any election data; the code is open source (AGPL-3.0)
but the data belongs to DSA. Data is processed only to run the election:
eligibility, one-member-one-vote, tabulation, auditing, and the
tamper-evidence chain. Ballot records are retained by DSA as the permanent
election record; voided ballots are flagged, never deleted. If a chapter or
national committee runs its own copy of the software, that body — not the
author — is the data controller for its deployment.
Verification
Your receipt code lets you confirm your ballot was stored
(/p/<poll>/verify) without revealing content. Exported
ballot files are anonymous.
